Taro takes advantage of site conditions
Biodynamic agriculture, as defined by Rudolf Steiner, requires a deep understanding of the processes and
interactions between soil, water, plant, and sun. Here Kelly demonstrates such an understanding. In this swampy,
shady depression he has planted taro, a shade tolerant hydrophilic species that produces a large, edible tuber.
While many farmers might see this inundated depression as an obstacle to be drained, cleared, and flattened,
instead Kelly has used it to his advantage.
