Bill Mollison, author and pioneer of permaculture design, describes permaculture in the following terms: Permaculture is the study of the design of those sustainable or enduring systems that support human society, both agricultural & intellectual, traditional & scientific, architectural, financial & legal. It is the study of integrated systems, for the purpose of better design & application of such systems. Permaculture design seeks to capture energy as it flows through a natural system. Thus water catchments, wind, solar, and biologic components are emphasized. Furthermore, design maximizes positive interactions between system components. Permaculture functions on the principles of careful observation, recycling, conservation, and conscious, thoughtful, decision making. The powerful combination of computer assisted drafting (CAD) and geographic information systems (GIS) allows for the complete integration of dimensioned, site-specific drawings into a broader design. For some examples, please have a look at our Permaculture Models . Our CAD models can be drawn based on site maps created with GIS software, and then integrated into a GIS model that acts as a blueprint for a complete resource management system. To further the spread of permaculture throughout the world, we have created the Project Permaculture Archive. Please visit the project to learn about innovative practices and their application throughout the world.
