This is a photo of the basil plant that only a month ago was “a little crushed” and wasn’t doing so well. Well, after plenty of rain and a tomato cage to support its droopy stems, its performing like a champ now. In fact, this plant has far surpassed its partner one barrel over.
So now its time to make some pesto. The recipe we use is fairly straightforward, and I suppose is the classic basil pesto recipe used in most places. We usually opt for walnuts instead of pine nuts, as the pine nuts tend to have a higher oil content.
The plant is just now starting to flower, and I definitely plan to harvest and plant the resulting seeds from this superior specimen.
I’ve finally managed to get the weeds under control as the rains have subsided. Now I just need to do some standard maintenance on my irrigation system to get it up and running again.
