In this installment of the Holistic Management Series, we are joined by Dr. Fred Provenza, a researcher at Utah State University. He has spent the last two decades looking at the behavior of grazing animals and how principles of behavior can be used for the economic and ecologic benefit of rangelands, pastures, and feedlots. Topics of discussion include the challenges grazing animals face in new and changing environments, epigenetics, animal culture, how animals select their foods, using positive and negative reinforcement to encourage desirable behavior, and some general principles of behavioral management.
